Australian Squad for the world cup- Part 1
The Australian cricket board has decided to gamble with the fitness of their most consistent batsman, Michael Hussey. The left hander is currently out of the team following a Hamstring surgery, but he has still been named in the final 15 for the ICC cricket World Cup to be held in the Subcontinent next month.
One surprise in the team may be the inclusion of Jon Hastings and Tim Paine; the two players are relatively unknown in international cricket. Ricky Ponting remains the captain and Michael Clarke, his deputy. Ponting is also currently sitting out due to his finger injury, but the skipper may have much bigger things to worry about as his team seems to have been hit hard after the demoralizing Ashes defeat. Australia did beat England in the first ODI, but Ponting was not part of the team in that game and the captain seems to have been affected greatly by the Test series fiasco. The right hander said:
"I'm not sure if anything would erase what's just happened... pay-back's going to be hard after losing the Ashes. What has happened has happened, and you've just got to look forward and make sure you're as well prepared as you can be for the next series or tournament that you play".
Shane Watson remains to be their most lethal weapon; the all rounder has matured into the most consistent player in all 3 formats of the game, after Michael Hussey. It is not an easy task to open for a team and also complete one's quota of bowling in any of the 3 formats of the game, and the responsibility is bound to have its toll on him. But for now he seems to be enjoying it.
Cameron White, another man who fits into the all rounder's category, is not so efficient with the ball. His leg spinners are useful but not threatening by any means. However, when he has the bat in his hand, he certainly can be threatening. The T-20 captain for Australia is one of the most feared hitters in the world of cricket, and, at the same time, also has the ability to build an innings, which certainly is a rare quality to have. If utilized properly, White can prove to be a crucial asset in the upcoming World Cup.
Jon Hastings, the 3rd all rounder in the team, is someone who has been performing consistently in Australia's domestic cricket. But considering that he has done it all on home turf, the jury is still out on how he would be able to cope with the subcontinental conditions in the World Cup.
The choice of Tim Paine, with Brad Haddin in the side, is an interesting one, to say the least. Both are similar attacking batsmen, and, as far as the capability of being safe behind the stumps is concerned, both make a good enough case.  Haddin has been with the team for a while, so he might have been the default choice, while Paine pushed his way in after his impressive show in the domestic competition. With David Warner not in the squad, one of these two may be chosen to open alongside Shane Watson.
